Two professionals shaking hands

Many individuals struggle to sell their homes themselves, some do alright but many don’t.

Even with modern technology and all the online information, there are many aspects about real estate that require an expert. Real Estate agents are more than sales people; they are experts in local markets and networking professionals. A proven real estate agent will save you time, money and stress when it comes to listing your house for sale. So we’ve compiled a list of 5 reasons you should hire a real estate agent when selling your home or property.

1. Knowledge and Expertise

Albert Einstein said, “Wisdom is not a product of schooling, but a lifelong attempt to acquire it” and this is also true for real estate agents. You may have been considering selling your home for a few days, weeks or months but a real estate agent has been practicing this for years possibly decades. A knowledgeable agent will be your most valuable asset when it comes to listing your home properly and guiding you thru the selling and closing process. Many agents are required to continue their education throughout their career and this can be valuable to anyone considering using an agent because their knowledge and expertise in real estate can save you thousands of dollars and many sleepless nights.

2. Representation

You may not be aware of the legal ramifications of a misstep in the selling and closing processes. Some people find themselves in court dealing with an unforeseen issue that an experienced agent may have noticed and prevented. Without an agent’s expertise you may find yourself in a similar situation. Additionally, a trustworthy agent will always represent your best interests to the best of their abilities. When you hire an agent, they work for you and will continue to protect your interests.

3. Negotiation

I’ve seen the results of many owners selling their homes on their own, and most of them don’t turn out so great. Some owners settle on an offer that is extremely low, fall outside contingencies which could result in legal action or wind up losing money on their sale. A professional agent will be there to guide you through the processes and make sure every step is taken with care. They also negotiate with interested buyers to get you the best results.

4. Market insights

You may have lived in your neighborhood for decades and met almost everybody in it, but a real estate agent can tell you which houses fell out of escrow in the last year and how long those houses were on the market for. There are many insights to the market that you may not be aware of, but a trained real estate agent is. Real Estate agents have access to tools and information that an individual seller won’t have.

5. Building Relationships

Agents are also people. They build relationships, network with other professionals and they try to keep in touch with their clients even after closing. Much of an agent’s business comes from referrals; it’s their bread and butter. When you hire an agent you are doing more than paying for a service, you’re also building a professional relationship that may benefit you down the road should you need to buy or sell property again.

I like that you pointed out how an agent will be knowledgeable regarding the processes of this transaction. As you said, they have studied for this and also have experience as well. I will definitely hire one to help me sell the house of my parents since we can’t manage them anymore due to living in another state.
